MASTERS UMPIRE SCHOLARSHIP

The Masters Umpire Scholarship is a key development initiative aimed at supporting the growth of emerging umpires within Brisbane Hockey.

Program Objectives

This program is designed to benefit both the Masters Competition and the wider Brisbane Hockey community in the long term. It involves significant investment in:

  • Umpire education and accreditation (targeting HockeyEd Level 1)
  • Mentoring from senior, experienced umpires
  • Representative opportunities at State and potentially National level

The program reflects the Masters Committee's commitment to giving back to the game and developing the next generation of officials.

Candidate Expectations

Successful applicants are expected to:

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Commit to ongoing training and development
  • Regularly attend Masters fixtures (Tuesday evenings)
  • Engage with mentoring and feedback opportunities
Eligibility
  • Typically aged 17–21
  • Some umpiring experience preferred but not essential
  • Reliable transport to attend matches
  • Strong interest in developing umpiring skills

Nominations and Application

  • Nominations are submitted through clubs
  • Forms are distributed via the BHA Secretary and club representatives
  • Applications typically open in February
  • Successful candidates are announced in early March

Clubs play an important role in identifying and supporting suitable candidates.
