2025 Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager Information

Coaching for your association is a unique and honourable opportunity.

Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers are required to nominate, to be appointed to a tournament.

11.1.4 a Should there be insufficient nominations for Team Managers, nominations will be put on hold until the Representative teams have been announced and then opened to the parents of said team. 

  • Coaching and Managing officials fall under Part H BHA By-Laws and 11 Representative Program of the BHA Competition Rules and Requirements.
  • Coaches will meet with BHA Rep Director and Selectors before trials for a briefing and chat with Selectors. Coaches will be given a chance to talk with selectors before and after trials to provide their thoughts on teams as per H.15 of BHA By-Laws.
  • Officials will be asked to sign and abide by a Code of Conduct for Coach, Assist Coach and Managers.
  • Coaches must not nominate for an age division where a conflict of interest may arise.
  • BHA will cover all Officials' travel, accommodation, and food costs.

U12 Coulter Shield - Ipswich

4 weeks of trials will be held in May/June 2025 at the grass fields at the State Hockey Centre followed by 6 weeks of training leading up to the Coulter Shield. Ipswich HA will be hosting the U12 Coulter Shield in 2025.

U14 State Championships - Rockhampton

Teams will fly out on 5 July 2025 and return on 10 July 2025

Note - Due to a major Football Conference/Tournament just before and straight after the State Championships, the teams will return on the morning of 10 July. This has been done to avoid congestion and the risk of delayed or changed flights.

4 weeks of trials will be held in May at the State Hockey Centre with week 4 being the Coulter Shield to be held at Sunshine HA. All Coaches for U14 are required to attend the Coulters Shield to assist with the squads. This will then be followed by 5 weeks of training leading up to the State Championships. 

U16 State Championship - Brisbane - 21 Sept 2025 to 24 Sept 2025

4 weeks of trials will be held in July/August at the State Hockey Centre followed by 6 weeks of training leading up to the State Championships.

The U16 will not be attending the U16 Coulter Shield in 2025.

Brisbane Hockey will be hosting the State Championships and teams will still be accommodated together as normal.

U18 State Championships - Cairns

Note - Teams will fly to Cairns on Thursday 24 April 2025 and return on Tuesday 29 April 2025.

This has been done to avoid the congestion of flying out the day the tournament finishes.

4 weeks of trials will take place in February/March at the State Hockey Centre followed by 6 weeks of training leading up to the State Championships.

Opens/U21 - Hockey Queensland Championship

Note - Brisbane Hockey Association will be submitting teams based on age (separating Opens and U21) to the Hockey Qld Championships. The U21 team will be expected to accommodate together with the Team Officials as they would in U18. This decision has been made in the best interest of team performance and cohesion at the State Championships. In our experience, this system fosters camaraderie, team culture, and comparatively improved performance. 

4 weeks of trials will take place in February/March at the State Hockey Centre followed by 6 weeks of training leading up to the Hockey Queensland Championships.

 

BHA will cover the cost of all Officials attending a tournament on behalf of Brisbane Hockey.
