Advice From HQ
In January 2021, Hockey Queensland (HQ) has provided the following advice in answer to queries regarding coverage timeframes and eligibility to claim.
Advice 1
There appears to be some confusion surrounding insurance timeframes. While all insurances are based on a calendar year, HQ have reconfirmed today with Honan’s Insurance that players registered in the previous year are covered for pre-season training and competitions. Players must be registered before starting the outdoor season for the insurances to continue.
Players who were not registered in the previous year, must register before training or playing pre-season competitions in the current year.
Advice 2
The insurances all players contribute to include personal injury, club management and professional liability and public liability – further information is available via: www.hockeyqld.com.au/info-hub/insurance/
As you would know, to be insured, players must register through their club and pay Club, Association, HQ and HA fees. Any player who does not pay all fees is not insured. Any additional fees or charges for specific programs or competitions are paid through the Association/Club’s preferred method.

Advice 3
9 Feb 2021 - further clarification of insurance status:
- Players who were registered in 2020 are insured for all pre-season programs and training.
- Players not registered or who received a credit in 2020 are covered for 4 weeks from initial approach, and to continue past 4 weeks they must pay their 2021 registration fees to be insured.
- All players must be registered before taking the field for the outdoor winter fixture/competition season to be insured.
Thank you Sue at HQ for providing this advice.
