Alex Aussie Master umpire
The Brisbane Masters' committee has for the past two seasons initiated and sponsored Trainee Umpire Scholarships for three young aspiring umpires. After completing his two-year scholarship under the guidance of Rod Hurst and Allen Schasser, Alex Savage was accepted to umpire at the Australian Masters' Hockey Championships currently being held in Hobart (22nd Sept to 7th Oct).
Alex (pictured with fellow umpire Nigel Richardson, Tasmania) has been umpiring games in all O60s, O65s, O70s and O75s. By Day 11 he had completed 14 games. The tournament has been a fantastic learning environment for Alex and he has received much positive feedback from a number of highly qualified umpires on the panel during the first week.
Alex will benefit from an official report that will guide his areas for improvement and Brisbane hockey, including Masters, will be long-term beneficiaries of his continued development.

Monday Night Summer Hockey
Starts Monday 16th October 7:30-9:00pm at Easts' Tiger Turf, Carina. Cost is $10.
Bring a plain white shirt, and a plain black shirt. (Bring a plain red shirt for when we have more than two teams).
This popular format has players placed into a team (black shirts v white shirts) as they arrive at the field. There are no short corners. It's an excellent way of staying fit and increasing your skills by trying new techniques and tricks or playing positions under a competitive, but friendly environment.

Thursday Arvo all year round
Resumes on Thursday 19th October 3:00-4:30pm at Easts' Tiger Turf, Carina. Cost is $6.
The Thursday arvo format has developed quite a strong following which also places players into a team (black shirts v white shirts) as they arrive at the field. Usually played on a half field (or quarter fields, depending on numbers). There are no short corners, and no hitting. It's an excellent opportunity of staying fit and increasing your push-passing and trapping skills. Drinks on the balcony follow.
Bring a plain white shirt, and a plain black shirt.
