Hockey Queensland President's Welcome
It gives me much pleasure, as President of Hockey Queensland, to be able to welcome players, officials and supporters to the 2010 Premier League and Open Championships.
This is the fourth year with the competition in the format where the men’s and women’s Premier League and Open competitions are being run at separate venues, with the women in Townsville this year and the men in Brisbane. It may now be timely to consider reviewing this format, particularly with consideration to the changes made in the national AHL competition, where this year, for the first time, we see an AHL round being played outside Brisbane.
This of course highlights the need for our sport to continue to lobby for, and grow our facilities, so that more centres can have an opportunity to host our premier state competition.
I wish to thank in advance the many volunteers who will ensure the success of this competition, both in Townsville and in Brisbane. There is much hard work and effort put into running these competitions and your efforts are appreciated. I also wish to thank, in advance, the umpires and technical officials including the coaches and managers of the competing teams, because without you all the competition could not run.
Please enjoy the competition and camaraderie of our premier Queensland hockey competition. I would like to wish players from all centres good luck and good competition. Good hockey to all and I look forward to a great weekend of competitive hockey.
