Landscaping in progress at SHC 28 Aug 08IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL SHC USERS
The State Hockey Centre is currently undergoing some earthworks to assist in the prevention of erosion on the cliffs on the southside of fields one and two.  It is EXTREMELY important that players, spectators and officials remain out of this area during this time for a couple of reasons…

· Safety – until the process has finished (3-4 weeks) it is not a safe area to be in.
· Damage control – encroaching on this area will damage the surface

The product is made in Queensland and is made from recycled green waste that has gone through a special process; it is totally organic and therefore environmentally friendly and won’t upset the delicate balance in any ecosystem.

It is easily installed via a low impact pneumatic application process and never needs removing. Once the seed has germinated, the whole structure is further stabilised by the grass roots and blends unobtrusively into the surrounding landscape.   It provides a stable barrier that is able to filter silt and other debris before it ends up on our fields and in our waterways.

It adheres to just about any terrain, regardless of the underlying substrate. The purpose of this work is to replace the eroded top layer of the natural soil and with an added bonding agent it is able to arrest the insidious process of erosion.  The soil injected with seed provides optimum conditions for germination.’

Please forward this to your clubs and members and ask them to take heed of the signs posted.

Kind Regards,

BRISBANE HOCKEY LEAGUE - Preliminary final

Easts 3 (Jarrod Black 2, Jacob Whetton) defeated Labrador 0 at the State Hockey Centre.

Minor premiers Easts overcame stubborn resistance from Labrador to book its place in the grand final against Commercial.  Two goals from striker Jarrod Black helped his side to its fifth grand final this decade, where the Tigers will face Commercial in the premiership decider for the third time in the past four seasons.  Labrador matched Easts in the first half of their preliminary final clash, as the Tigers’ usually potent attack stuttered in front of goal.  Labrador’s best chance of the first period fell to Joe Reardon, who shot wide after good lead-up work from Andrew Ward and the ever dangerous Mark Harris.  The Tigerstix then held out Easts for six penalty corner attempts late in the half, with goalkeeper Tyrone Melrose making key saves.  Easts found their attacking groove early in the second half, with Black deflecting a ball past Melrose seven minutes after the break.  Australian Schoolboys star Jacob Whetton took advantage of a defensive lapse from Labrador fullback Adam Byrne to double Easts’ margin six minutes later.  As Easts’ defense held firm, the Tigers sealed their spot in the grand final against the Cobras when Black sent a backstick shot high into the net.  Historically, Commercial brings better grand final prowess into the 2008 decider than Easts.  While the Tigers have missed out on the big match just six times since 1990, they have won only five titles from a dozen attempts during that time.  Commercial has won five grand finals in seven appearances since 1994, including claiming three of the last four premierships.  Only twice in the past 20 seasons, when Redcliffe and Bulimba clashed in 1999 and 2000, has neither Commercial or Easts not featured in the final game of the season.
