* Catch-up game for washed out June 4 fixture

Pine Rivers St Andrews won its Thursday night catch-up game against Norths 4-1 at a chilly Burringbar Park. The Saints’ goals – two before halftime and two after the main break – came at nine-minute intervals. Josh Hockey scored first in the 13th minute, and then Saints captain Luke Reddiex doubled his side’s lead in the 22nd minute. Up 2-0 at halftime, Pine Rivers St Andrews continued on with the task of crafting a win to push the team into the top five, with goals to Josh Mynott and Jacob Anderson. Phil Dumpleton scored for Norths, his goal coming from good lead-up play by Eagles youngster Dom Machen.

Pine Rivers St Andrews 4 (Josh Hockey, Luke Reddiex, Josh Mynott, Jacob Anderson) defeated Norths 1 (Phil Dumpleton) at Burringbar Park, Chermside.

Pine Rivers St Andrews consolidated its position in the top five with a rare victory over Easts. Jacob Webber, just off the plane from Ireland, scored for Easts after just 70 seconds, before the teams exchanged goals to be tied 2-2 in the second quarter. Luke Reddiex scored the go-ahead goal for the Saints at the Clem Jones Sports Complex just before halftime. The match was in the balance before the Saints scored two late goals to win 5-2 – the Saints’ first victory over Easts in five years – and claim the Daryl “Fish” Richards Memorial Cup, contested annually by the clubs.

Back-to-back goals scored at two different points of the game helped top-placed Bulimba account for bottom-placed Norths. The game at the State Hockey Centre was scoreless for 26 minutes until Troy Elder scored, and then goalless for another 15 minutes. Up 1-0 at halftime, the Bulls hit three goals in five minutes in the third quarter, including one to Kyle Richardson who scored a hat-trick against Norths in his last match for Bulimba early last year, to race to a 4-0 lead. Two Cale Cramer penalty corner goals in the last six minutes wrapped up a 6-0 win.

University of Queensland again found Kedron-Wavell a hard team to dominate, with a late goal seeing off the Wolves’ challenge at Mary Nairn Fields. The students won 2-1 in the last meeting against Kedron-Wavell, and led 1-0 at halftime this time following a 20th minute Andrew Newman goal. University doubled its lead three minutes after halftime but failed to breach the Wolves goal line again until Joel Rintala scored his second penalty corner goal with three minutes left in the match, while goalkeeper David Watts kept a clean sheet for a second straight week.

Labrador’s top two scorers each hit two goals as the Tigerstix recorded a comfortable win in the longest road trip of the competition. Labrador scored three goals before halftime and three goals after halftime as the Gold Coast side triumphed 6-0 on its visit to Mary Nairn Fields at Redcliffe. Jason Wilson and Brad Hughes recorded doubles while Joe Reardon and Craig Bigham also scored. Those four players also scored for Labrador against Redcliffe Leagues in Round 4 this year, with Wilson scoring four times for eight goals in four starts against the Redmen.

Former Brisbane Hockey Association player of the year Jake Burns has now scored seven goals in two games for Commercial after the Cobras outclassed Valley at the State Hockey Centre. Burns, the ex-Queensland Blades striker, hit a hat-trick as the Cobras won 9-0. Adam McClelland scored twice for Commercial, one of six goal scorers for the Newmarket-based outfit. It is the fourth game this season that Commercial has had six different scorers. Commercial has now scored seven goals or more against Valley in three of the last four meetings between the teams.
