Labrador holds the outright competition lead for the first time in its ten seasons in the Brisbane Hockey League after beating Pine Rivers St Andrews. Three goals by Labrador foundation player Joe Reardon helped the Tigerstix to a 6-2 win at Burringbar Park. Labrador led 2-0 at halftime, before two goals in the final nine minutes, to Reardon and Josh McRae, sealed the Gold Coast side’s seventh victory in a row. Jason Wilson scored twice, for eight goals in his past four games, as Labrador extended its unbeaten run at Burringbar Park to eight games, including seven wins.

University of Queensland’s impressive mid-season form has continued, winning for the fourth time in five games by taking down defending champions Easts in a Thursday night game. The 4-1 win at Clem Jones Sports Complex was just the students’ third win over Easts this century. Joel Rintala scored twice for University and has now scored two goals in five of his team’s past six games. University’s Andrew Newman claimed a goal in his first match of the year and Drew Wenzel also scored, with Easts winless in three straight games for the first time since 2009.

Bulimba moved up to second outright on the competition ladder after continuing its recent advantage over Commercial. Two goals in six minutes in the second quarter at the State Hockey Centre, to Simon Borger and Troy Elder, had Bulimba up 2-1 at halftime, before Adam McClelland equalised with a goal in his 150th game.
Cale Cramer scored against his former club with three minutes left for the Bulls prevail 3-2. Bulimba has won four of the past nine games against Commercial going back to 2013, with the Cobras winning twice and three games drawn.

Redcliffe Leagues ended an eight-game losing run by beating Norths for the second time this year. The clash of the two bottom teams saw the peninsula outfit win a tight match at the State Hockey Centre 2-0. The opening goal from Nick Budd after 10 minutes came when Redcliffe Leagues was awarded a penalty stroke for the ball hitting the foot of a Norths defender on the goal line. Redcliffe Leagues doubled its lead midway through the fourth quarter when Tim Ward put a half-volley shot high into the net, after Aaron Kreis miscued his attempt at goal.

A lone goal to Steven Bayliss was enough for Valley to defeat Kedron-Wavell in the local derby for the sixth time in eight meetings. In a game that saw numerous missed scoring chances by both teams, Bayliss scored three minutes after halftime at Burringbar Park, the only goal in the Diehards’ 1-0 win. It is Valley’s second victory by a 1-0 scoreline this season and the first time this year that Kedron-Wavell has been held scoreless in consecutive games. Valley is unbeaten in back-to-back games at Chermside after losing its previous three matches there this season.
