BRISBANE HOCKEY LEAGUE - Round 7
Commercial overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Pine Rivers St Andrews and maintain a share of the competition lead. Pine Rivers St Andrews led 2-1 at the State Hockey Centre at quarter-time, before the second of Jacob Anderson’s two goals for the game had the Saints up 3-1. Commercial then hit four unanswered goals, to Leighton Stock, Jake Burns, Kye Hawgood and Jared Taylor, to lead 5-3 with 15 minutes left to play. A goal to Craig Smith of Pine Rivers St Andrews made it a tight contest again, but the Saints couldn’t reel in the Cobras any further.
Rockhampton product Dale Gohdes celebrated his 150th top-grade game for Easts by getting on the score sheet in his side’s win over Norths. The winless Eagles led the three-time defending champions 1-0 at the Clem Jones Sports Centre, through a Dan Fletcher goal in the seventh minute. However, the competition-leading Tigers regrouped to tie the scores at 1-1 at quarter-time, before scoring six more unanswered goals to win 7-1. Easts finished with five penalty corner goals and two field goals, with Gohdes and Matthew Pembroke each scoring twice.
In-form Labrador continued its hot streak, toppling University of Queensland at the State Hockey Centre. The Tigerstix and Redmen entered the clash equal on competition points but the Gold Coast side emerged with a 7-2 win. Scores were tied 1-1 at quarter-time, before two quick goals gave Labrador a 3-1 halftime lead. Three goals in three minutes in the third quarter, two from Craig Bigham and one by Jason Wilson, saw Labrador hold a match-winning 6-1 lead. Labrador has now won four straight games, with Corey Weyer scoring in all those four victories.
Bulimba striker Cale Cramer moved to the top of the competition’s goal scorers chart after netting a hat-trick against Valley. Cramer's three goals and two from Troy Elder saw the Bulls end a two-game losing run with a 5-1 win over the Diehards at Burringbar Park. A goal to Elder straight after halftime gave Bulimba instant ascendancy in the second half, before the Bulls pulled away. Cramer, who is averaging exactly two goals per game this season, hit two field goals in two minutes in the third quarter. Blake Wotherspoon scored Valley’s only goal from the penalty spot.
Kedron-Wavell won its second game of the year, and moved up to seventh on the ladder, with a 5-2 win over Redcliffe Leagues at Burringbar Park. Kedron-Wavell led 2-0 at quarter-time and extended to a three-goal margin by the midpoint of the game, before two quick goals to James Hawley and Trent Kreis had Redcliffe Leagues back in the contest at 3-2. German import Joel Ackermann and Sam Acutt then found the back of the net to seal the Wolves’ win. Jacob Jennison also scored against his former club, while Daniel Springfield and Matt Argent also hit the target.
