NOTICE TO CLUBS
Match Sheets and Rostered Umpires
In general terms most Players, Club Officials and Umpires do the right thing when it comes to the paperwork associated with Fixture Matches. However, your Association's efforts to gather the Match Sheets and the information they contain is all too often hampered by what appears to be carelessness on the part of some and perhaps just laziness on the part of others.
The nett result of this is that the input of vital information into Association systems, including SportingPulse, is noticeably impeded. This causes progressive Points Tables not to tally in some divisions, as well Umpire, First Aid and Technical Bench payments to be delayed.
In relation to Match Sheets the following points are made:
- All game information at the top must be filled out, including the opposition team and division
- The game result and score must be indicated on both team sheets (we had one game last week where neither team provided a game result or the score, despite both sheets being signed by the captains and umpires).
- The "Player's Registered Division" column on the left must be filled out by all teams for all players on the team, regardless of whether the players are registered in that team or in a lower or junior team.
- If the Vets are borrowing players from other clubs these players are to be listed on the match sheet and their registered club noted in the "Player's Registered Division" column
- The full surname and first name is required for each player (we have had sheets with only first names and some with nicknames)
- The rostered umpires for each match are required to sign the sheet, regardless of whether the Umpires' Committee has allocated official umpires to that match.
- Most of the above points are made in the BHA Competition Rules and Requirements.
Missing Sheets
Match sheets have not been received for the following matches. If Clubs and their respective players are unable to locate the original sheets then they are to arrange for copies to be made of the corresponding blue or green duplicate sheets and these to be sent to BHA Office by email, post or fax or dropped into the letterbox outside the BHA Office.
- 30/3 - VHL1 - Commercial v University (at Redcliffe)
- 13/4 - VHL1 - Easts v University (at SHC 1) & VHL 1 - Valley v Kedron Wavell (at SHC 1)
- 17/4 - J2 - Kedron Wavell v Norths (at BUR) & U13 - Norths v SW United (at BUR)
- 27/4 - VHL1 - Bulimba v Commercial - these match sheets were received but have no scores or results on either of the team sheets, despite both captains and umpires signing them.
Rostered Umpires – No Shows
It was noted on the corresponding match sheets that the teams rostered to provide umpires for the following 3 games failed to do so, leaving the teams that were playing to find their own:
- 28/3 - BHL5 - SWU vs Commercial at RED (QUT 4 failed to provide two umpires; Commercial & SWU provided one each)
- 10/4 - CHL - Valley vs Commercial 2 at Finsbury (Qld Police CHL failed to provide two umpires; Commercial 1 & Redcliffe provided one each)
- 24/4 - BHL5 - SWU vs Valley on SHC1 (Norths 4 failed to provide two umpires; SWU provided both) – the Tech Bench wrote on the tech sheet that Norths were asked to provide umpires and refused to do so.
- 24/4 –BHL4 or 5 Norths vs Valley SHC2 (Redcliffe Div 2 failed to provide two umpires. One Redcliffe 2 and one Valley umpired the game which was delayed due to unavailability of umpires)
It has also been noted that while the Rostered Umpires didn't sign the Match Sheets for many other matches (mainly BHL1/2/3; BHL4/5 are actually very good), there were still two umpires that signed all the other sheets.
It is important to the effective running of the competition that all members of the Association (including Players, Clubs, Officials, Umpires) play their part. Without the ongoing cooperation from all participants the results and Points Tables cannot be published.
Please advise and reinforce the competition requirements for umpiring and completing team sheets with your team officials and players.
As you would know the competition rules provide for fines to be imposed for failure to provide umpires as rostered. The provision of umpires will be monitored to ensure that clubs are meeting their rostered umpiring responsibilities and the imposition of fines will be considered by the Board.
I have been advised by the Board that the failure to provide umpires as rostered will be closely monitored in view of its impact on other teams. Please consider your fellow players in other teams and provide umpires so that they can enjoy their game without the hassle of late starts and chasing umpires.
