Western Australia to be the key to World Cup preparation
Western Australia will play a vital role in the build up to both the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos 2010 World Cup campaigns, with both teams playing a number of test matches in WA throughout the next month.
In total eight international matches will be played in WA over the coming month, six Hockeyroos matches and two Kookaburras matches.

The Hockeyroos, currently ranked 5th in the world, will take on New Zealand (ranked 9th) and Korea (ranked 11th) as preparation for the BDO World Cup Qualifier event which will be held in Santiago, Chile from April 24 – May 2.
After suffering a surprise loss in the final of the Oceania Cup to New Zealand in August last year, the Hockeyroos were denied direct access to the 2010 Women’s World Cup which will be played in Rosario, Argentina from August 29.
While the Kookaburras will only play two matches in Western Australia, these games will be of utmost importance given that they will be played on the eve of the 2010 Hero Honda FIH Men’s World Cup which will take place in New Delhi, India starting on February 28.

HOCKEYROOS HOST GIRLS NIGHT IN & RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER RESEARCH
Following on from the 2009 Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy tournament where the Hockeyroos wore pink bodysuits in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), the team recently hosted a Pink Girls Night In event in support of the Cancer Council.
The Girls Night In is an event used to raise vital funds for research into women's cancers. The idea is that a group people donate the money they would have otherwise spent on a night out and instead enjoy their friends company by having a night in.
Hockeyroos Teneal Attard and Emily Hurtz have become ambassadors for the Girls Night In and hosted an event for the Hockeyoos on Saturday February 6 in Perth.
35 players from the Hockeyroos and the National Development squad attended the Girls Night In.
The Hockeyroos raised over $2,600 on the night, including a $770 donation from the Old Aquinas and Willetton Hockey Clubs. Hockeyroos Teneal Attard and Ashleigh Nelson, who play for each club respectively, were recently presented with the cheques as seen in the above image. |
