Fixture Draws - Update
Following last Monday night's BHA Board of Management Meeting the Draws of several competitions have been extended as follows:
Brisbane Hockey League (BHL)
The BHL Draw has been reinstated through to the end of April. It contains many changes to that which originally appeared on the Website some weeks ago. The bulk of these changes were brought about by late inclusion of a second Bulimba team to BHL4. The BHA Director of Competitions is now engaged in the process of bringing the rest of the BHL Draw up to date. It will be published once this process has been completed and ratified by the BHA Board.
Classic Hockey League (CHL)
After due consideration by the BHA Board of Management, the CHL Competition for 2008 is to continue as two divisions, with four (4) teams in CHL1 and six (6) in CHL2. The Board considered amalgamation of the two divisions into a ten (10) team competition. However, while a four (4) team competition in CHL1 is not ideal, the Board felt that the differences in skill levels between the teams currently in CHL1 and the majority of the teams in CHL2 was quite sizable.
The Draw is currently being redrawn to take in to account the withdrawal of University from CHL1. (FYI, the draw changes from a six team draw with a bye to a four team draw) Further delays to the publishing are due to the need to establish the availability and the condition of the various venues that are being considered for use during 2008.
BHA Junior Competitions
The BHA Board of Management has indicated that the BHA Junior Boys' 'grass field' competitions will continue to be played at the SHC for at least another week. The Secretary of the BHA Junior Committee, June Grant, is in the process of posting at least another week on the Website.
The BHA Grounds Committee, in association with the BHA Board of Management, are continuing to monitor the condition and suitability of Shaw Park with a view to returning the Junior matches to there sometime in the near future.
BHA Veterans
The complete Draw has now been published on the BHA Website.
Premier League & State Open Championships
Brisbane Hockey Association is hosting the Premier League and State Open Championships at the SHC over the May long weekend (3 - 5 May).
As part of the arrangements with Hockey Queensland and HQ on Lytton, BHA can provide additional catering for the Premier League and State Open tournament. This is to meet the needs of players and spectators for additional food outlets and earn income for BHA and our clubs. HQ on Lytton will operate the canteen, players bar and its normal catering service across the weekend.
BHA is able to operate BBQs to provide food such as hamburgers and sausages on bread across major meal times. This will include a burger tent and a beer tent on the hill between SHC1 and SHC2. Similar to 2007 these outlets will provide for players and spectators to get something to eat, have a drink, watch hockey and socialise.
We now need volunteers to operate the BBQs and drinks outlets to make this a success. Clubs are asked to advise if they can provide volunteers to operate these outlets at various time slots across the weekend. A crew of seven or eight people will be needed for each time time slot. Financial rewards will be provided for clubs providing volunteers .
This is a good opportunity to contribute to Brisbane Hockey and to earn some income for your club as well as mix with people from other clubs and across Queensland. BHA is keen to have the support of clubs and for clubs to have some financial reward for their assistance.
If your Club is interested in this opportunity then please contact your Club Secretary immediately so that they can advise BHA as soon as possible. |
