Premier League & State Open Championships
Our teams performed very well. In Premier League, Brisbane 1 defeated Sunshine Coast in the Final to retain the Premier League Trophy. while Brisbane 2 finished a creditable sixth. In the State Open Brisbane finished a well earned fifth. Full credit goes to the players, managers and coaches for these excellent outcomes. Congratulations Stephen Green - Premier League Player of the Final. Details of the teams, scores and results can be found on the Website - www.bha.org.au/premier
For the second year in a row BHA played host to this event. And once again the feedback has been positive. Without the dedication and support of its members and others this would have been the case. In particular the following are thanked:
- Bruce and Veronica Luck - All things Catering!
- Roslyn Salway - assistance with preparations, including the posting of the players' names on the Website
- Fiona Saunders - officials hospitality
- Volunteers from Bulimba, Valley, Easts Hockey Clubs who operated the BBQ and Drinks Tents
- Members of the BHA Board and Staff
- Pat Purcell MP, Member for Bulimba and Port of Brisbane for the use of their tents and eskies.
For their assistance and cooperation, thanks go to:
- HQ on Lytton - Canteen and Bar, and loads of cooperation and support
- Teys Bros of Beenleigh - quality meat at the right price
- Feast on Fruit (Morningside Fair) - suppliers of the fresh produce used in the BBQ Tent
- Global Print (Wynnum West) - printing the official program with a less than five hour turn-around
All in all, a great effort!
The Sydney Challenge
Over the weekend of 10 & 11 May Brisbane hosted the Sydney Junior Hockey Association in the Brisbane - Sydney Challenge in Under 13 and Under 15 age groups. This was the 25th Challenge and is a valuable event on the junior representative calendar as it gives both centres the opportunity to play against strong opposition in a competitive but friendly competition. Brisbane retained the Under 13 Shield winning 5 - 1 on Saturday and drawing 2 all on Sunday. In Under 15 it was a 3 all draw on the Saturday and a win to Sydney 4 - 1 on Sunday. The Under 15 Shield was therefore awarded to Sydney.
Coulter Shield
The Junior Coulter Shield campaigns begin shortly. Please make note of the following host centres and dates:
- 25 May - Under 13 - Tweed Border (Murwillumbah, NSW)
- 1 June - Under 15 - Sunshine Coast (Buderim)
- 27 July - Under 18 - Gold Coast (Labrador)
- 3 August - Under 11 - Ipswich (Raceview)
Burringbar Park & Shaw Park
BHA have been advised that Brisbane City Council has now taken over the sporting fields formerly operated by ShawSportz. The finalisation of the administration of ShawSportz continues, however the operation of the sporting venues by the Brisbane City Council should bring some normality to arrangements and hire costs. Details of arrangements under the Brisbane City Council are still to be advised as is the availability of Shaw Park for hockey fixtures. BHA will be working with the Brisbane City Council to finalise arrangements for Burringbar (in conjunction with BWHA) and Shaw Park.
