Labrador 4 (Andrew Taylor, Sam Barker, Mark Harris, Brad Puleosi) defeated Pine Rivers St Andrews-Norths 0 at Burringbar Park, Chermside.
A 10-goal turnaround saw Labrador recovered from last week’s heavy loss to Redcliffe Leagues with a clinical defeat of Pine Rivers St Andrews-Norths. The Saints dominated field position in the first 15 minutes but had nothing to show for it. Labrador struck twice in successive minutes from the 20th minute of play, and from this point never looked in danger. Andrew Taylor scored the first goal after well-structured teamwork from a short corner, before Sam Barker capitalised from some good fortune one minute later. Following a deflection, Barker got a faint touch ahead of advancing Saints goalkeeper Nathan Panetta, and suddenly the Tigerstix led 2-0. Another good interchange of passes from a short corner led to Mark Harris scoring Labrador’s third goal in the 28th minute. Labrador suffered several injuries in the second half but repelled the Saints’ best efforts to claw back into the match. The only score after half-time came 10 minutes from the end through Brad Puleosi. Both teams had a player yellow-carded after some frustration led to niggling and pushing late in the match.

Bulimba 5 (Liam Brown, Duncan Mahony, David Donnelly, Luke Paine, Jason Hale) defeated United 2 (Brendan Merry, Adam McClelland) at Burringbar Park, Chermside.
Bulimba converted pressure into points as it beat United to stay in sight of defending its Memorial Cup trophy. In a free-flowing first half, Bulimba opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Liam Brown scored after a scrabble in the circle. Brendan Merry locked the scores up with a crucial goal just one minute before half-time, but Bulimba made an even more vital strike just two seconds before the siren. United was caught napping from a Bulimba free hit, and the Bulls snatched the lead back through Duncan Mahony’s goal. Bulimba’s superior structure was evident when David Donnelly scored nine minutes after the break. Four minutes later, United surrendered possession twice within one minute and paid the price both times. Luke Paine scored from a short corner before Jason Hale added his name to the scorer’s list. Adam McClelland scored for United with three minutes left, but the match was well and truly out of his team’s reach.

Redcliffe Leagues 8 (Marcus McKinnon 3, James McAlpine 3, Ian Schulz 2) defeated QUT 0 at the State Hockey Centre, Colmslie.
Redcliffe Leagues trio James McAlpine, Marcus McKinnon and Ian Schulz continued their recent run of scoring form, combining to score all their team’s goals as the peninsula side cruised past QUT. The slick Redcliffe Leagues outfit was on fire early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes with two goals to McAlpine, currently the competition’s leading scorer. Redcliffe Leagues was rarely troubled by the students, with only Peter Forshaw and Justin Truscott, the Ibis’s best player, seriously troubling Redcliffe Leagues goalkeeper Daniel Pink. At the other end, QUT keeper Chris Grew pulled off a series of excellent back-to-back saves, which was deservedly met with generous applause by both sets of supporters. But he was unable to keep out five second half goals, including a hat-trick to McKinnon, as Redcliffe Leagues recorded its biggest win of the season. Disappointinly for QUT, some of Redcliffe Leagues’ late goals were scored with ease, with McKinnon tapping the ball into an open net after good work by Kent Harle and then McKinnon punished Grew’s poor clearing kick.

Easts 9 (Jason Wilson 5, Brad Mathers 3, Darran Bisley) defeated University of Queensland 3 (Greg Collins, Murray Wenzel, Timbi Poon) at the State Hockey Centre, Colmslie.
Easts forward Jason Wilson had a night to remember in a match that was replayed after the two sides began a contest that was abandoned the previous weekend. Wilson scored five goals as the unbeaten Tigers registered a big 9-3 win, while Brad Mathers scored three times. In the previous match, University led Easts 1-0 before rain intervened, but the Redmen’s strong efforts in that match were a distant memory as the competition leaders went on a first-half scoring spree in the replay. In a match played in drizzling rain throughout, the scores remained 0-all until 19 minutes of play had elapsed. But there was little sign of the carnage that was to follow. Easts scored six goals in the 16 minutes leading up to half-time after capitalising on a series of short corners, as well as scoring two field goals. University fought back in the second half with goals to Murray Wenzel and frequent scorers Greg Collins and Timbi Poon, but Easts also found the net three more times to ensure the game was high scoring despite the weather.
