Umpiring for 2006 - A New ApproachThis season BHA is adopting a new approach to umpiring. A document entitled "Proposed Implementation Details for the BHA Umpiring Approach for 2006" which outlines this new approach was presented to the BHA General Committee Meeting of Monday 23rd January 2006. Copies were also emailed to all clubs. Each of the stages involved are laid out below. Also available in PDF format (70k).
Stage 1Stage 1 of this initiative requires a minimum of two players per team complete the Rule Familiarisation Paper and to bring their completed Answer Sheet along to the their chosen classroom session (Stage 2). Participants should print an Answer Sheet (second page) before moving on to read and answer the 50 questions. This paper can also be downloaded as a PDF file (100k). It should be downloaded, printed and given to those players who do not have access to the Internet. The paper should be completed as "open book" with reference to the current Rule Book. Visit the FIH Website or download in PDF format (300k) from this Website.

Clubs are to arrange for their participants to attend a session at one of the above venues. If a participant is unable to attend a session at their own club then they should attend one at one of the other venues. Some venues have yet to be confirmed (T.B.C.) and others may be added if required.
Stage 3 is an on-line quiz consisting of 50 questions. The answers are assessed on-line and each participant receives a result in the form of a percentage. Please note the following important points before clicking the "Start Here !" link below.
Should any participants experience any technical difficulties completing the quiz then they should contact their Club Secretary with details . The Club Secretary will then forward the details to the BHA General Secretary.
Stage 4
Field Tests (two matches each) will be organised for those who have successfully passed Stage 3. Further details will be made available at a later date.
Make certain that you have read the Proposed Implementation Details for the BHA Umpiring Approach for 2006 document which outlines the process before making your enquiry. If you still need to further clarify any of the details then please contact your Club Secretary in the first instance. Only contact the BHA Dir of Umpires, Leon Cross, on 0417 617 396 if your query still has not been answered to your satisfaction.

Note: The viewing (& printing) of PDF documents requires that a suitable "Reader" application is available on your system. The free Adobe Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe Website. A much smaller and faster Reader for MSWindows systems is FoxIt Reader. FoxIt Reader is also free and can be run without installation - simply "run" the executable file, from virtually anywhere.
